Access to the park’s visitor center is by passenger car, with the nearest town for supplies, Port Hueneme, about 22 miles away. The campground is situated on Santa Cruz Island and is only accessible by private boat or a concessionaire ferry service. Facilities include pit toilets, a picnic table, and a food storage box at each site. The area offers many activities, including hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, and wildlife viewing. The island has a long history of human habitation and features unique plants and animals, such as the island fox. No services are available on the island, and all gear must be carried in.
