Haleakalā National Park (Cabin Permits)

Haleakalā National Park manages three reservable wilderness cabins accessible only by strenuous hiking into the crater. Hōlua Cabin (6,940 feet) requires a minimum 3.7-mile hike down the Halemauʻu Trail into a native shrubland. The more remote Palikū Cabin (6,380 feet) is reached via a 9.3-mile hike on the Keoneheʻeheʻe Trail and sits at the base of a lush rainforest cliff. Kapalaoa Cabin (7,250 feet) is a 5.6-mile hike on the Keoneheʻeheʻe Trail into a grassy field. All trails are steep with loose rock and significant elevation change. Each cabin has an adjacent pit toilet, and Hōlua and Palikū have non-potable water spigots. The nearest town for supplies is Kula, about 12 miles from the park entrance.
