Chilhowee Campground

Cherokee National Forest · Developed campground

This developed campground in the Cherokee National Forest offers tent and RV sites, many with electric hookups. The campground is reached via a narrow, winding 7-mile mountain road; inexperienced RV drivers may find it challenging. Use Forest Service Road 77 for access. The nearest town for supplies is Benton, 3 miles away. Each site has a picnic table, grill, and fire ring, accommodating vehicles up to 90 feet. The campground serves as a hub for the Chilhowee Trails System, with 25 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The 7-acre McKamy Lake offers a swimming beach and fishing; boats are allowed, but gasoline motors are not. Nearby activities also include canoeing, kayaking, and whitewater rafting on the Ocoee and Hiwassee Rivers.
