Box Elder

Box Elder Campground is a developed BLM site in the Dolores River Canyon. This first-come, first-served campground is free of charge and has 11 campsites equipped with fire rings and picnic tables. Two vault toilets serve the facility. Located within a grove of box elder trees, the site offers access to the Dolores River and is a popular launch point for boaters, especially during water releases from McPhee Reservoir from mid-April to mid-June. The nearest town for supplies is Dove Creek, about 5 miles away.
